PHASES
THE CONCEPT OF PHASES
183 million tonnes of outgrown baby clothes are sitting in UK wardrobes today, due to children going through seven clothing sizes in their first two years of life. 11 million of these baby garments end up in landfill weekly. Phases aims to help solve this problem by creating a service whereby our clothes can be bought, used and returned for repair and resale, therefore drastically increasing the lifecycle of our products and reducing the likelihood of ending up in landfill.
MOONLIGHT COLLECTION
NATURAL DYES
Due to children tending to have more sensitive skin, Phases uses natural dyes to reduce skin irritation, and water pollution by eradicating the use of chemical dyes within the Phases brand.
Phases natural dyes include:
FABRICS AND COMPONENTS OF CHOICE
Phases uses fabrics that reduce the likelihood of skin irritation when wearing our garments. The fabrics we utilise include:
JERSEY HEMP - Biodegradable, breathable, anti-microbial, durable and soft.
INFINNA FIBRE - Regenerated from textile waste, infinitely recycled with other textiles waste, delivers the same great qualities as cotton with soft and natural look and feel (Moonlight collection).
COATS ECOCYCLE THREADS - Water dissolvable at high temperatures making it easy to take apart clothing at end of life, durable (for sewing and embroidery).
WOVEN HEMP - Biodegradable, fibres are eight times stronger, durable, not prone to shrinking, garments last 2-3 times longer.
MERINO WOOL - Bio-degrades after 12 months, the earth gains back the wool’s proteins when composted at the garments end of life.
SUGAR CANE POPPERS - Biodegradable, sugar cane production is renewable and stores CO2 more effectively.
Phases uses a QR code, printed onto all garments and packaging, to educate customers on how they can help once their little one grows into our next size. Customers scan the QR code when they are ready to return the items, a link takes them through to the returns section of the Phases website where they order their child’s next clothing size, once the new subscription package arrives, the customer packages up the old size of garments in the new sizes packaging and posts them back to Phases. Subscriptions choose from three levels of bundle for each age range, as the volume of garments included in the bundle increases so does price. Phases then cleans, repairs, or reuses the fabrics and components for new subscriptions.
WHAT PHASES COULDN’T SOLVE
Our processes are not completely waterless, and there is no way to ensure that customers return the clothing.
WHAT PHASES COULD SOLVE
100% use of sustainable materials and components, increasing the lifecycle of garments, reducing the likelihood garments go to landfills at end of life, overall reducing the amount of unused baby clothes in UK wardrobes.
